Exact printings
Every other scanner finds the card. This one finds the copy.
Knowing you own a Lightning Bolt is almost useless. There are dozens of them and they are not worth the same. A basic land is harder still, and this one came back as Edge of Eternities, number 274, common, English, foil, from one look at a shiny piece of cardboard.
- The right set. Reprints stay apart, so a Beta copy and a Foundations copy never merge into one line.
- The right number. Alternate art, showcase frames and borderless treatments are each their own printing.
- The right finish. Foils come in as foils and get priced as foils, with nothing to toggle.
- Held any way up. In a hand, at a tilt, or upside down across the table from you.
Heimdall mode
Lock the spot. Stop hunting for edges.
Finding the edges of a card is the part that fails. A black bordered card on a dark playmat, a full art card with no frame, a card still sitting in a binder page: there is nothing for the camera to lock onto.
- You set the zone. Mark the area once and the scanner works inside it and nowhere else.
- It stops looking for a card. No edge to find, no frame to detect. It just reads whatever is in the zone.
- Binder pages and dark mats. The two places ordinary detection gives up are the two this was built for.
- Worth printing a tower for. A scan tower drops every card into the same spot, which is exactly what a fixed zone wants.
Double sided tokens
Two faces, kept as one card.
Scan one face, scan the other, and Sparkheim asks whether they are two sides of the same token. Say yes and it keeps them as a single two sided card in your collection, with both faces.
- No database has these. A double sided token is two separate entries everywhere else.
- So Sparkheim builds the card. It combines the faces itself and counts the token properly.
- Nobody else does it. Every other tracker stores half of it, or nothing at all.
Lookup mode
Point it at a card. Read the card.
Lookup mode never touches your collection. Aim, wait a beat, and the whole card opens: rules text, printings, and both the regular and the foil price. The fastest way to settle a rules question or price the card somebody just played.
- Nothing gets added. Look at as many cards as you like without touching your binders.
- Both prices. Regular and foil side by side, so you know which one you are holding.
- Across the table. Read an opponent's commander from your seat without asking for it.
Reader mode
It reads the card out loud.
Reader mode identifies the card and speaks it: name, cost, type, abilities, in the card’s own language. Say "Hey Siri, read a card" and it opens.
- Costs are spoken in words. "Blue, blue" rather than symbols, because a symbol means nothing to a screen reader.
- Built for visually impaired players. And in the free app, like the rest of the scanner.
- The card’s own language. It reads what is printed, not a translation.
